What's included

What a specialist VAT audit looks like

A full review of your VAT returns We look at the past 12 to 24 months of returns to spot patterns, errors, and opportunities you might have missed.
Whether you're on the right scheme Flat rate, cash accounting, annual accounting, partial exemption : we check whether the current setup actually fits the business.
Invoicing and record-keeping audit Are the invoices VAT-compliant? Is the record-keeping ready for HMRC scrutiny? We check Making Tax Digital compliance too.
Where HMRC could push back Our specialists worked at HMRC. They know exactly what triggers an enquiry, and they tell you where your VAT position is weakest.
Money you might be leaving on the table Overpaid VAT you can reclaim, reliefs you weren't using, scheme changes that would save you cash. Often pays for the audit itself.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly do you look at during the audit?

Past VAT returns (typically 12 to 24 months), invoices, accounting records, scheme choice, record-keeping and MTD compliance. We look for three things : risk (areas where HMRC could push back), opportunities (overpaid VAT, missed reliefs, better schemes), and structural improvements (how to make VAT easier going forward).

Will this trigger an HMRC enquiry?

No. The audit is an internal review between you and us, never shared with HMRC. We're independent advisers, not informants. If we find an issue that needs disclosure, we discuss the right way to handle it with you, you decide.

What if you find a problem?

It depends on what we find. Minor issues are usually fixed going forward, no need to involve HMRC. Material issues with past VAT may benefit from a voluntary disclosure, which often reduces penalties significantly.

We explain the options clearly and let you choose how to proceed. The audit itself stays confidential, always.

How long does the whole process take?

From the free callback to receiving the written report, the typical timeline is 2 to 4 weeks depending on the volume of data and complexity of the setup. We agree the timeline in writing before starting.

Will you try to take the client from me?

No, and we have a clear rule about it. We're a VAT specialist firm, not an accountancy practice. We don't do bookkeeping, payroll, statutory accounts, or general tax compliance. What we offer is specialist VAT expertise on top of your work, never instead of it. You stay the lead adviser, we stay in the background.

You can choose how visible we are : white-label (the report comes through you) or co-branded (the client knows you brought in a specialist). Your call.
